MEMORIAL AVENUE ARCHES
The NZTA, Christchurch City Council and Christchurch International Airport ran a design competition for a gateway feature at this interchange on the Christchurch western corridor route. The arches symbolise two cultures coming together and the landscape of the region.
Eastbridge has been awarded the contract for fabrication of the steel arches. Eastbridge will share erection responsibility with main contractor (McConnell Dowell/Downer Joint Venture).
Fabrication is complex given the sectional geometry is continually morphing along the length of the arches. At road level the arches are a diamond shape and at the crest they are triangular. Significant temporary works are required to prop segments of the arches while site joints are completed.
