These structures often incorporate an architectural feature or element by customising parts of the bridge including handrails, cyclerail and anti throw sceens. 

With the bridge user in closer contact with the structure than a road or rail bridge, the degree of finishing on the metal work is usually higher end with welds ground flush and striking paint jobs.
